Community and Education Resources - Water Quality and Onondaga Lake Community and Education Resources - Water Quality and Onondaga Lake

In 2000, Onondaga County deployed an automated monitoring buoy into Onondaga Lake at South Deep Station, the Lake's primary water sampling site. This buoy provided the County with continuous monitoring of the Lake's water quality to through 2012. In an effort to reduce redundancy and encourage high-quality data sharing for our community, the Onondaga Lake water quality data has been provided since 2012 from a monitoring buoy maintained by the Upstate Freshwater Institute (UFI), as part of Honeywell’s nitrate addition pilot project. Measurements from this buoy support assessment of compliance with water quality standards and provide data on important physical, chemical, and biological processes in Onondaga Lake.

This data is provided by the Upstate Freshwater Institute (UFI). Anomalous or incorrect data may still be transmitted, caused by mechanical problems or invalid readings from occurrences, including but not limited to instrument fouling by biological materials, unusually high battery drain, failure of solar energy panels and/or radio frequency noise transmitted with the data signal. Neither Onondaga County (the County) nor Water Environment Protection (WEP) are responsible or assume any liability, for any damages caused by inaccuracies in this data or documentation or as a result of the failure of the software to function in a particular manner. Further, neither the County nor WEP make any warranty, expressed or implied, as to the accuracy, completeness, or utility of this information, nor does the fact of distribution constitute a warranty. Data from the buoy has not been reviewed or validated by County or WEP staff and, therefore, the data provided by UFI is considered to be provisional.
