Environmental Laboratory
Protecting the health of our local water environment is paramount- for public health, recreation, and economic reasons. WEP's certified environmental laboratory monitors samples from a variety of water and soil sources, along with other potential pollution contributors. Accredited in three categories – non-potable water, potable water, and solid and hazardous waste – our lab conducts over 100,000 analyses on over 20,000 samples annually. This continuous monitoring ensures hazardous substances stay out of our waterways, preserving the strength of our ecosystem.
Process Control
By monitoring and analyzing wastewater metrics, WEP's Process Control division enables WEP to continuously improve its operations and ensures our compliance with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) State Pollution Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) permits.
Source Control
WEP's Source Control is dedicated to maintaining consistency and safety within the sewer system and treatment plants. This group is responsible for controlling wastewater discharges into the sewer system by enforce the "Rules and Regulations to the Use of the Public Sewer System", which establishes stringent limits for wastewater pollutants, prohibits certain discharges, and empowers the County to issue discharge permits.
Plumbing Control
WEP's Plumbing Control division ensures plumbing installations conform to public health laws, ordinances, codes, plans, and specifications. They oversee the licensing and registration of plumbing contractors and plumbers, issue permits, review plans, and conduct inspections of plumbing installations at various stages in Onondaga County to ensure compliance and safety. Collection Systems Programs
The wastewater collection system is a network of sewer pipes, manholes, pump stations, and force mains. These are WEP assets that bring wastewater to the treatment plants. WEP's Capacity Management Operations and Maintenance (CMOM) program is a structured framework to effectively manage, operate, and maintain this critical infrastructure. |
Save the Rain is WEP's Green Infrastructure program that provides an alternative stormwater management solution in Metro's Combined Sewer service area. |
