How Do I Recycle or Dispose of ...? Mercury

  Mercury
Mercury is a silver-colored metal that is liquid at room temperature. Mercury is VERY harmful to fish and wildlife. DO NOT put mercury or mercury containing devices in the trash or the sewer system.

What can I do?
• If you have liquid mercury or a mercury containing thermometer or thermostat, bring it to an OCRRA Household Hazardous Waste Collection for recycling. Mercury fever thermometers can be exchanged for a non-mercury thermometer free of charge.
• Dentists that use mercury amalgam for fillings have specific New York State regulations that they must comply with.
