Wastewater treatment plants do a great job of cleaning water before it is recycled back into the environment, but many chemicals and medications don’t get treated at all. Many medications will pass through the treatment plant and back into the environment where they can potentially harm plants and wildlife.
What Can I Do?
• Don’t flush unused medications down the sink or toilet.
• Mix your unused medications with your trash. That way they will be incinerated just like in other communities that have dedicated medicine collections.
