    Community outreach in the City of Syracuse, providing free products and education to help families follow the Healthy Home Model:

    • Keep it dry
    • Keep it clean
    • Keep it ventilated
    • Keep it pest-free
    • Keep it contaminant-free
    • Keep it safe
    • Keep it well maintained


    Asthma Education

    • Help families identify and minimize asthma triggers in the home
    • Reduce asthma-related hospitalizations
    • Partner with American Lung Association to present Asthma Education Days for our clients

    Fire safety and prevention

    • Provide smoke detectors to prevent fire deaths in the home
    • Referrals to the City of Syracuse Fire Department for free smoke detector installation and safety assessment

    Carbon Monoxide poisoning prevention

    • Provide carbon monoxide detectors to prevent carbon monoxide deaths

    Lead poisoning prevention

    • Help families identify potential lead exposure hazards in the home
    • Provide education on lead safe cleaning
    • Referrals to the County Lead Prevention Program for home testing

    Radon testing

    • Provide free radon test kits and education

    Home accident and injury prevention

    • Help families identify potential hazards
    • Provide products to minimize injury risk
    • Referrals to Syracuse City Codes Enforcement

    Household pest control

    • Provide information about Integrated Pest Management and education for rats, mice, cockroaches, and bed bugs.
    • Provide free pest prevention products

    Household cleaning

    • Promote “green” household cleaning methods to reduce chemical exposure and improve indoor air quality
    • Provide free cleaning products

    Products may include, but are not limited to, buckets, mops, dust-minimizing cleaning products, first aid kit, flashlight and batteries, hand soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes, outlet covers, cabinet locks, furniture safety restraints, mouse traps, cockroach bait traps, hypoallergenic pillow protectors, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and supplemental reference materials.
