WEP Treatment Plants and Service Area

The Department of Water Environment Protection (WEP) is Onondaga County’s public sewer utility for residents, businesses and industries within the Consolidated Sanitary District (CSD). The CSD encompasses various municipalities within Onondaga County. The CSD includes:

Our Services 

WEP performs a range of services in these communities on County-owned assets, County-leased assets or through municipal service agreements. 

  • Sewer & Pump Station Maintenance: Regular inspection, cleaning, and repair of sewer lines and pump station equipment  

  • Emergency Response: 24/7 response to sewer backups and other emergencies to minimize disruptions and health risks. 

  • Treatment Facilities: Operation of six wastewater treatment plants to ensure wastewater is treated to meet state and federal standards before being safely discharged. 

  • Odor Control: Implementation of measures to minimize odors from wastewater treatment facilities and pump stations, ensuring a pleasant environment for nearby residents. 

  • Capacity Assurance: Evaluation of new sewer service requests to ensure the system can handle additional wastewater flow.

Are there any costs for sewer services?  

There is no direct cost for emergency response and regular maintenance services.

These costs are covered by the sanitary sewer unit charges on your County tax bill or billed back to your municipality.
