Flooded Basement

Our Services

The Department of Water Environment Protection (WEP) responds to service requests from residents and businesses experiencing issues with their sewer service. These services are free and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year.

What to Expect

If you notice your pipes draining slowly or sewage backing up into your basement, call us immediately. Our team will respond quickly and begin an inspection of the public-side of the sewer system. This is usually from the cleanout vent (mushroom cap) in your yard to the road and into the public sewer system. After the inspection, our team will diagnose the issue and determine the appropriate course of action.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there anything I can do to prevent a basement backup?

Yes! Visit our Community Resource page, Preventing Basement Backups, for steps property owners can take to reduce their risk.

What if I am not in the Consolidated Sanitary District?

If you are not located in the CSD, call your town or village for assistance. Usually, this is your municipal Department of Public Works (DPW).

What if I am not connected to the public sewer system?

If you are not connected to the public sewer system, contact a licensed plumber or service expert.

Will my insurance policy cover any damages?

In general, standard insurance policies do not cover basement backups. Contact your insurance provider with any questions regarding their policies or to request additional details on coverage.

How much does your service cost?

There is no direct cost for our service. Costs are covered by the sanitary sewer unit charge or billed back to your municipality.

Do I need to be present for the service call?

In general, you do not need to be present for our sewer service inspection. Most times the problem can be diagnosed without access to your home or business. If your request is not urgent, we can schedule a visit at a time that is convenient for you.
