Permitting - Miscellaneous Wastewater Permits

Miscellaneous permits are issued by WEP on a project-by-project basis

for groundwater disposal, masonry work, and asbestos abatement.

Groundwater Disposal Permits

Groundwater from new construction, removing or installing underground storage tanks, and water collected in those tanks are eligible for a Groundwater Disposal Permit.

Common Permit Requirements

- Written notice to WEP requesting a permit

- Pretreatment, typically filtration to remove solids

and carbon absorption to remove organic components

- Flow metering

- Lab analysis to ensure compliance

Masonry Wastewater Permits

Cleaning or restoring masonry work often requires the use of water and/or cleaning products. The masonry itself could contain potential contaminants such as lead, nickel, and zinc. Because of this, WEP issues Masonry Wastewater Permits and sets specific requirements prior to masonry wastewater discharge to the sanitary sewer system.

- Written notice to WEP requesting a permit

- WEP inspection of the project site

- Flow metering

- Sample collections and lab analyses

Asbestos Abatement Wastewater Permits

Wet methods are often applied when removing asbestos in order to keep this dangerous mineral from becoming airborne. WEP issues Asbestos Abatement Wastewater Permits to provide a safe disposal method of this generated wastewater.

- WEP inspection of the project site

- Filtering prior to discharging to the sanitary sewer

- Flow metering

- Sample collections and lab analyses
