Climate Smart Communities is a NYSDEC program that assists local governments in taking action in their communities to reduce greenhouse gases and adapt to climate change.

Onondaga County has taken the first step in this process and has adopted the climate smart pledge and become a Registered Climate Smart Community.

In order to become a Certified Climate Smart Community under this program, communities accumulate points for planning and implementation actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the adaptation and resilience of communities to the deepening impacts of climate change.

Onondaga County is currently working to achieve certification to help our community take affirmative action against the impact of climate change and secure the benefits of becoming a Certified Climate Smart Community. More information on the Climate Smart Communities program can be found here.
