green infrastructure:

In 2008 County Executive Mahoney stopped $250M in construction costs for regional sewage treatment plants and Onondaga County is now pursuing a balanced, gray and green infrastructure approach to manage our wet weather problems. Rather than collecting, pumping and treating our storm water after it has entered the sewer system, we are working to capture the rain water where it falls reducing pollution, our energy bill and improving water quality. The County is doing this by building green roofs, rain gardens, porous pavement parking lots, green streets and more. Visit Save the Rain.
