Preparation for the Secondary Effluent Pump Station (SEPS) — October 2002

SEPS is a major addition at the Metropolitan Syracuse Wastewater Treatment Plant that will accommodate the new ammonia and phosphorus treatment streams. Wastewater at Metro now receives primary and secondary treatment, and secondary treatment is followed by tertiary treatment in clarifiers before discharge to Onondaga Lake.

With extended treatment to remove ammonia and phosphorus, the secondary effluent now will be pumped to the BAF (ammonia) and HRFS (phosphorus) removal facilities. The SEPS is the link between the two.
