Cleaning Teall Brook
In December 2001, Onondaga completed an underground facility at the corner of
Teall and Mildred avenues in Syracuse to remove
trash and other debris from the overflows of sanitary
and storm sewers. These overflows happen only about
ten times each year, and this facility operates only
at those times.
By using a screen, the Teall Brook facility separates
floating debris from the water. The facility operates
automatically and requires infrequent cleaning to
keep it operating well.

Excavation for the underground facility

Nearly all of the facility is located underground and,
therefore, has a minimum effect on the neighborhood.
It is hydraulically cleaned and requires little
maintenance. Only the control panel and hatches to
permit access below ground are visible from the
street.
The Teall Brook control facility makes an important
contribution to Onondaga County's efforts to prevent
pollution from reaching Onondaga Lake.
