ENERGY MANAGEMENT ANALYST
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The work involves responsibility for analyzing the energy consumption of an agency and making recommendations to increase energy efficiency. An Energy Management Analyst assesses building infrastructure and systems for potential energy savings. An employee in this class works closely with staff engaged in building maintenance and reports directly to an administrator who is responsible for the overall coordination of the agency’s energy plan. Supervision is not a typical function of this class. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Complies and analyzes utility bills for energy consumption levels and expenditures.
Determines agency’s total energy costs and consumption by using energy management accounting software.
Surveys buildings and equipment for energy efficient usage.
Assists in developing and implementing energy efficiency upgrades.
Serves as a liaison between the school district and utility companies and suppliers of natural gas and electricity.
Keeps up-to-date with current industry situations and policies.
Coordinates energy conservation measures with district staff, HVAC design team and public and private energy service companies.
Recommends energy conservation projects.
Communicates energy awareness to district staff.
Inputs data into and create reports from energy management accounting software.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of utility company and natural gas regulations and restrictions.
Good knowledge of building systems including electrical, lighting, and HVAC.
Working knowledge of natural gas and electric industry terminology.
Working knowledge of natural gas and electric pricing mechanisms.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
A. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an associates degree in a mechanical or electrical technical discipline and three (3) years of work experience, or its part time equivalent, in energy management, HVAC or electrical trades or a closely related field; or,
B. Five (5) years of work experience, or its part time equivalent, in energy management, HVAC or electrical trades or a closely related field; or,
C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
