The Onondaga County Health Department is currently accepting applications for the position of:

Education Specialist (Children with Special Needs)

Location: 421 Montgomery Street, Health Department, 9th floor, Syracuse

Salary: $57,738

Hours of work: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday



Healthy Families, a program of the Onondaga County Health Department, has a full-time opening for an Education Specialist (Children with Special Needs). Duties include supervising a team of Service Coordinators who work with families in the Early Intervention Program. This position will review, approve and facilitate processing of paperwork for provision and payment of services. The Education Specialist will attend Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) and/or Committee of Preschool Special Education (CPSE) meetings and assign children to appropriate programs and services. Minimum Qualifications:

Possession of a permanent/professional New York State license or certificate from the New York State Education Department, in an area relating to the education of children with disabilities. This may include certification or license in the following areas: special education, speech and hearing, visual impairment, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, educational administration or teaching certification in Nursery thru Grade 6. Prior experience and good working knowledge of the preschool education programs in the community for children with special needs preferred.

Successful candidate will be appointed provisionally pending the results of the NYS Civil Service exam for this position, to be given at a later date.
