The Onondaga County Center for Forensic Sciences is currently accepting applications for the position of:

Director of Laboratories

Location: Center for Forensic Sciences Ė Forensic Laboratories

Salary: $116,722 - $154,735

Hours of work: Typically days, M-F


Job Duties:

The work involves responsibility for directing the overall operations of the Forensic Laboratories for Onondaga County. An employee in this class is responsible for ensuring that analytical, comparative, and related interpretive services are provided to user agencies in a timely, accurate, and meaningful fashion in order to assist with criminal and medico legal investigations in accordance with sound laboratory practices, accepted forensic procedures, and established County policies. This position reports to the Commissioner of Health. Supervision is exercised over professional, technical, and clerical personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a minimum of a Masterís degree in a Natural Science, Criminalistics, Forensic Science or a closely related field, and six years of recent (within the last ten years) technical laboratory work experience in an accredited forensic laboratory, three years of which must have been in a supervisory or managerial position.

Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelorís degree in a Natural Science, Criminalistics, Forensic Science or a closely related field, and eight years of recent (within the last ten years) technical laboratory work experience in an accredited forensic laboratory, three years of which must have been in a supervisory or managerial position. Candidates considered for appointment will be required to undergo a State and National criminal history background investigation which will include a fingerprint check to determine suitability for appointment. Failure to meet the standards for the background investigation may result in disqualification.
