The Department of Water Environment Protection is currently accepting applications for the position of:

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist

Location: 7120 Henry Clay Blvd., Liverpool, NY 13088

Salary: $57,738 $63,902

Hours of work: 8:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m.



The work involves responsibility for assisting in the planning, development and coordination of a Geographic Information System. An employee in this class uses GIS software to create, modify, analyze, and display geographic data in order to meet the spatial data needs of the county.

Minimum Qualifications:
A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Baccalaureate degree in Geography, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies or a closely related field and one (1) year of work experience, or its part time equivalent, using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software; or,

B. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Baccalaureate degree in Geography, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or a closely related field which included fifteen (15) credit hours in Geographic Information Systems; or,

C. Five (5) years of paraprofessional or professional level work experience, or its part time equivalent, two (2) years of which must have been in a professional level capacity involving the use of a full-featured Geographic Information System (GIS) software including creating and modifying GIS data.

In lieu of a transcript, you will need to list all courses successfully completed in the curricula listed above, the names of the courses, number of hours earned, grades awarded, approximate dates of completion, and name(s) of college(s) where you took the course.
