The Liverpool Public Library is currently accepting applications for a possible transfer opportunity for the position of:

Librarian II – Children’s and Family Services Coordinator

Location: Liverpool Public Library

Salary: $42,000 - $47,500

Hours of work: 35 hours per week, includes some evenings and weekends


To be eligible as a transfer candidate, you must currently hold a competitive class Librarian II or equivalent position (appointed from a civil service eligible list for the title and successfully completed probation) within New York State. This position is a Permanent appointment. Transfer candidates must serve an 8-26 week probationary period.

The Liverpool Public Library is seeking a creative, innovative Librarian to serve as the Coordinator of the Children’s and Family Services Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and implementation of a full range of library services and programs for children ages 0-12 and their families, aligned with the Library’s strategic plan. You will report to the Senior Coordinator of Learning Services.

What you will do:

- Oversee the development of coordinated and innovative programs for children, families and caregivers; conduct early literacy and children’s programs
- Articulate/write program objectives and outcomes
- Purposefully incorporate early learning strategies and the 5 practices of “Every Child Ready to Read 2” into story time and other preschool activities to nurture early literacy skills and enhance kindergarten readiness; train staff in those practices
- Oversee the annual Summer Reading Program; investigate and implement ways to broaden and grow the program to include experiential learning
- Demonstrate leadership by pursuing new developments in children’s services in concert with administration
- Ensure that the Children’s print and non-print collection is current, diverse and relevant to meet the needs of the community; perform collection development duties
- Oversee the physical organization of the children’s collection to maximize access
- Establish and grow relationships with community based organizations serving children, including schools, child care facilities and other agencies
- Attend community meetings/events as a representative of the library
- Work with administration and staff to establish measurable outcomes and benchmarks; evaluate effectiveness of programs and services
- Propose and develop projects for funding; develop and manage grants when applicable
- Manage department budget
- Lead/supervise department staff
- Prepare reports for administration and Board of Trustees
- Work public service desk in library; may serve as Director’s Designee (Librarian in Charge) when needed
- Perform related duties as required to meet the needs of the library and its patrons

The Liverpool Public Library is seeking a creative, highly collaborative and forward-thinking Librarian to serve as the Coordinator of the Community Engagement and Adult Programming Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for helping to create, introduce and implement a sustainable vision for the department, aligned with the Library’s strategic plan. The Librarian II will oversee a team focused on proactively creating opportunities for community connection and collaboration. You will report to the Assistant Director for Patron Services.

What you will do:
- Work collaboratively with library administration, staff and the community to develop responsive outreach services and programs
- Oversee the development of coordinated and innovative adult programs and events; develop and conduct adult programs
- Build and grow community partnerships
- Pilot new service delivery models, such as pop-ups
- Staff outreach events in the community; connect community members with library services and each other
- Attend community meetings as a representative of the library
- Work with administration and staff to establish measurable outcomes and benchmarks
- Use evaluation tools/data to assess community needs and determine effectiveness of outreach services and programs
- Oversee the scheduling of outreach events and the use of outreach vehicles as necessary
- Propose and develop projects for funding; develop and manage grants when applicable
- Manage department budget
- Lead/supervise department staff
- Prepare reports for administration and Board of Trustees
- Work public service desk in library; may serve as Director’s Designee (Librarian in Charge) when needed
