The Onondaga County Health Department is currently accepting applications for the position of:

Clerk II (3-6 month temporary position)

Location: Civic Center, 421 Montgomery Street, Syracuse, NY

Salary: $20.04 per hour

Hours of work: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday (35 hours per week)

The Onondaga County Health Department is seeking a qualified candidate to join the Cancer Services Program (CSP) team as a Clerk II (temporary). The Clerk II will be responsible for assisting the program with medical data entry, qualify patients for the program, making reminder phone calls, mailing appointment cards to patients, and communicating with medical providers and billing offices to obtain patient medical records and billing information. This position reports to the CSP Program Coordinator.

Responsibilities of the Clerk II include:
- Utilizing the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) forms, and online secure data system to ensure timely collection of all required data and documentation for patients utilizing the CSP
- Ensuring timely submission of all required patient data
- Participating in all required CSP trainings (in-person or conference call)
- Works with medical providers to ensure timely and appropriate submission of required forms and data
- Works with medical providers to ensure timely and appropriate submission of required forms and data
- Promptly obtaining missing or corrected information for medical providers that is required by NYSDOH
- Assisting with phone and office coverage for the Division of Community Health, as needed

Minimum Qualifications:
Two (2) years of clerical work experience which involved the performance of routine office tasks, such as keeping of records and accounts, correspondence, recording/entering (keying) and retrieving data and/or information, in accordance with prescribed procedures.
NOTE: Post-secondary education in a regionally accredited or New York State registered educational institution with a concentration in secretarial science may be substituted for the above described experience on a year-for-year basis.

Desired Experience:
- Knowledge of medical billing and insurance Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statements
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with coworkers and contracted medical providers
- Excellent phone and in-person customer service skills
- Computer proficient
- Self-driven and fine detail oriented
